E-Waste Policy Handbook 2019

In the last decade, some African countries have started to develop policies and regulations to manage hazardous waste, particularly e-waste [Chapter 2].

This process has been challenging, especially since examples of existing systems and legislations have been taken from developed countries where:
(i) challenges of informal collection and recycling are less relevant,

(ii) basic infrastructure for waste management is present,

(iii) consumers and industry are generally aware of waste management practices, and

(iv) off-grid solar products are hardly present.
