Event Details

Bangladesh Edition

This webinar focuses on how Bangladesh’s IDCOL solar home system program addressed the affordability challenge, through a combination of grants and consumer financing. The IDCOL program was one of the largest, longest-running and most successful national off-grid electrification initiatives ever undertaken. It was funded by the World Bank, alongside other donors, and implemented with technical support from the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP). Whilst the overall design of the IDCOL program is well-known, the mechanisms through which it addressed affordability are less well understood. The webinar will provide stakeholders with the opportunity to explore this element of the IDCOL program design in detail, with a focus on identifying transferable lessons that are relevant for end user subsidy design in other countries and contexts.

Speakers:

  • Moderator: Pauline Githugu, Team Leader, Africa Clean Energy Technical Assistance Facility
  • Speaker: Md Enamul Pavel Karim, Head of Renewable Energy, IDCOL
  • Discussant: Anil Cabraal, former Lead Energy Specialist, World Bank
